SMOKEFREE PHILLY: KNOW THE LAW

Do you own or work in a store that sells tobacco products? Make sure you understand the law:

Philadelphia City Ordinances 732 and 960367 require:

  • No sale of cigarettes, cigars, chew or pipe tobacco to anyone under age 18.
  • Retailers must ask for a photo I.D. of anyone who appears to be under age 25.
  • Retailers must post an age-of-sale warning sign near the cash register.
  • Retailers may not sell single cigarettes (loosies).
  • Tobacco must be kept behind the counter or in a locked case.
Tobacco Products Include:
  • packs of cigarettes
  • loosies (single cigarettes)
  • blunts or cigars
  • bidis
  • imported or specialty tobacco
  • chew or spit tobacco
  • pipe tobacco
